The B1 German course at Phonem is designed for learners with solid basic knowledge. You'll speak more independently about everyday life, work, and social topics while working specifically towards CEFR level B1.

Placement test

The course follows the Common European Framework of Reference in B1.1 and B1.2. You'll practice coherent speaking, understanding texts, and structured writing. A single course like B1.1 costs 350 €; if you register less than 7 days before the course starts, a processing fee of 40 € applies (390 € total). Many learners use B1 as a language certificate for naturalisation, vocational training, or university studies.

In small groups, you'll practice speaking, feedback, and exam-related tasks with a clear structure.

Your journey through B1

B1 is a milestone: You're now using German independently. You can talk about experiences, express opinions, and master most everyday situations in German.

At this level, your linguistic flexibility grows. You'll combine known structures creatively, close gaps through context, and understand longer texts and conversations with increasing confidence.

B1 is an important level for everyday life, work, vocational training, and university studies. The course at Phonem prepares you specifically for the CEFR requirements at B1.

  1. You'll learn to speak coherently about the past, present, and future. Topics such as the world of work, travel, and social life become linguistically accessible. You'll practice extracting information from texts and formulating short statements.

  2. Your expression will become more precise and confident. You'll argue in German, write structured texts such as letters or reports, and understand unfamiliar conversational situations better. At the end of this level, you'll be ready for the CEFR final exam at B1.

Phonem language certificate according to CEFR

Teaching, exam and certificate according to CEFR. Clearly structured. Issued by Phonem.

  • Phonem Sprachschule aligns teaching, final exam and language certificate with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

  • The final exam tests all four skills: reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression and oral expression. Weighting and oral tasks follow the respective level from A1 to C1.

  • After regular attendance and passing the final exam we issue the Phonem language certificate according to CEFR. Issuance is included in the course price.

  • We issue the certificate digitally as a PDF with QR code for online authenticity check. For verification we store only the required data according to the approved privacy and deletion policy.
