A2CEFR level

The A2 German course at Phonem builds on completed A1. You'll expand your vocabulary and grammar according to the Common European Framework of Reference and speak more confidently in daily life in Hannover.

Placement test

The course is structured into A2.1 and A2.2 and is your step from A1 to B1 on the CEFR path. You'll practice the past tense, modal verbs, and longer conversations on topics like housing, work, and authorities. This way, you'll reach A2 step by step and lay the foundation for B1.

In small groups, you'll have space to speak, ask questions, and get feedback from experienced teachers.

Learning goals

What do you learn in the A2 German course?

Your path

Your Path Through A2

A2 builds on your initial German knowledge. You can communicate in familiar situations and now learn to use this confidence in new contexts.

At this level, language becomes more tangible: you'll recognize patterns in grammar, understand simple texts, and can hold your own in short conversations. This builds self-confidence.

Many learners notice at A2 that German is logical when you learn it in context. That's exactly what happens here: no isolated memorization, but language competence in context.

At Phonem, you'll learn A2 in a practical and goal-oriented way, with clear milestones on the path to independent language use.

  1. You'll expand your vocabulary on topics like shopping, housing, and family. Grammatically, past tenses and modal verbs are added. You'll practice giving and asking for simple information, both orally and in writing.

  2. Your sentences will become more complex and natural. You'll understand common idioms, can summarize short texts, and communicate in German in everyday situations, for example, at the doctor's or at the office. By the end, you'll have fully completed the A2 level.
